Spear Weapon Course

Shaolin Spear

8 hour intensive introductory course.

Open to all Nam Yang members who have completed the Tan Tow course.

The spear (‘Qiang' in Chinese) is considered to be one of the more sophisticated weapons taught to advanced students. There is a saying in Chinese that to learn the Tan Tow takes 100 days, the Spear 1000 days and the Straight Sword 10,000 days!

It is a very fast, deceptive weapon with an extremely long range.

The course will cover the following:

•  Principles of spear use

•  Learning a complete spear routine

•  Coaching on technique

•  Legalities of owning and using weapons

The routine can also be done as a sparring routine against the three Section Staff or, with minor modification, the Tan Tow or Shuang Tow. Training in sparring routines will be available in the spring, dates to be agreed.

The course will cost £75.00 (£85.00 if paid on the day). This will include Spear and carry case (value £45.00); 8 hours tuition; step by step instructions for routine; certificate (to be presented on completion of course).

Dates:      Part 1: Sunday 10 th May

Part 2: Sunday 17 th May

Venue:   Martial Arts Centre, Alexandra Park, Alexandra Road, Epsom, Surrey, KT17 4BN

Timings:   12:00pm – 4:00pm, (including half hour break).
