Self Development Through Shaolin Martial Arts

Southern Shaolin Weapons Systems

The Southern Shaolin Weapons systems incorporates a wide variety of weapons. In fact at Nam Yang Martial Arts we teach over 30 weapons systems from swords through to axes, spears to staffs. Less common by fearsome weapons include the three-section staff and the Tiger Fork. There are a variety of specialised weapons developed by and unique to the Shaolin Martial Arts.

Training in Shaolin Weapons normally is preceded by study in the empty handed forms of Shaolin Kung Fu. Weapons are very good for strengthening the student's musculature and the opportunity to practice training between armed and unarmed combatants is a useful self defense training exercise in these days when knives, bottles and even baseball bats have been drawn on people.

Shuang Yang Pei Ho also includes a form which is performed with a sword with the emphasis on movement on the internal energy. It is a slow, relaxed form that allows those with injury or age to enjoy the benefits of weapons training without the intense physical extertions typical of Kung Fu training.
